The Lisbon Police Exploring Post was originally started in 1981 by Sgt. Harry Moore and Officer Sean Faherty. Affiliated with the Boys Scouts of America, Explorers are young persons ages 14-19 that have an interest in pursuing careers in Law Enforcement. Interest in the post has gone up and down over the years but it is currently being rebuilt under the efforts of Officer Renee Bernard, Sgt. Moore, and some dedicated VIPS volunteers. Some of our former explorers have gone on to rewarding careers in law enforcement: Old Orchard Beach PD, Brunswick PD, Lisbon PD, US Army MP and Lewiston PD to name a few. Explorers are trained in a similar fashion as the Citizens Police Academy. They meet twice a month for topic lecture and practical training. The explorers go a step further in that in addition in ride alongs, they will participate in firearms qualification, physical training, hands on crime scene investigation and eventual deployment in the field to shadow working law enforcement officers. We currently have 5 explorers and are always looking to expand our membership! Through some outstanding VIPS involvement, we are constantly doing fundraising to provide funding for uniforms, attendance at the Maine Law Enforcement Explorer Academy in Vassalboro and the National Law Enforcement Symposium.
