INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

In September of 2001 the Lisbon Police Department was awarded a grant from the Federal Office of Community
Oriented Policing Services in the amount of $140,000.00. These funds were used to aquire computer technology
upgrades which allowed officers to be re-deployed from the station house out into the field where they are continuing
community policing efforts. This was accomplished in three phases:

1.)  complete in-house hardware and software upgrades;
2).  addition and integration of hardware and software allowing dispatching and records management from mobile
       police units; and
3).  outfitting four (4) substations throughout the community with remote access to the main server.

Officers can now be silently dispatched to calls via a laptop computer in the cruiser. They can initiate calls, respond to
calls, run records checks on persons and vehicle tags, complete reports, complete accidents, issue citations, and many
other functions. Many of these required the officer return to the station for completion or prolonged radio traffic with
dispatchers. This photo shows Officer Jason St. Pierre using the laptop to handle a call.

Laptops are now installed in four (4) Crown Victoria cruisers,  and our newest addition to the fleet,
a 2003 Ford Explorer.

Information Technology continues to change at a rapid pace. The Lisbon Police Department is committed to
staying at the forefront of change but also recognizes the value of  face to face interaction with the citizens of
the Town of Lisbon.
